About the publication

The purpose of these field notes

Junglereelbiscut helps a first-time spectator move from seeing a burst of action to understanding a bout, a tournament and the setting around them.

Notice, understand, contextualize

Our starting point is something a viewer can observe: a foot at the straw boundary, a belt grip, a referee’s gesture or an entry on a ranking list. We then explain the relevant rule or practice. Historical and cultural context follows where it helps, rather than replacing a concrete account of what happened.

The guides focus on professional sumo in Japan unless another setting is explicitly named. Amateur sumo, women’s participation and local traditions are not interchangeable with the Japan Sumo Association’s professional structure.

Our source approach

For current professional rules, official results, rankings and tournament arrangements, start with the Japan Sumo Association. For broadcast reporting and contemporary context, NHK WORLD-JAPAN is another useful starting point. Neither organization endorses this publication.

Historical subjects need more than an official institutional summary. We point readers toward collections such as the National Diet Library, museum objects and broader scholarship. An origin narrative, a later interpretation and a documented institutional change are identified as different kinds of claim.

What we do not claim

This is not an official rulebook, live-results service, ticket office or stable-visit booking service. We do not claim insider access, personal reporting from training rooms or endorsement by a wrestler. The guides are introductory editorial explanations, not individualized training or medical advice.

Corrections and useful questions

A good correction identifies the page, the sentence in question and a source that supports the proposed change. Dates and historical names are especially useful to check against a specific publication or record. Use the contact worksheet to prepare a message; it does not submit anything automatically.
